What services do you offer?

The Memorial Services Detachment is a team of veteran volunteeers who ensure that all veterans are provided the rifle salute and playing of taps. All military funeral honors performed by the MSD are provided at no cost to the family.  Honors are performed Monday-Friday at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.

How can I request a military honors ceremony?

Veterans, service members, and some family members may be eligible for burial in a VA national cemetery.  Services are requested through the funeral home which is utilized.

Do you play TAPS for funerals at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery?

Yes, we have a team of talented buglists who play TAPS at MSD supported funerals.

How can a veteran apply to volunteer with the Memorial Services Detachment?

Is the Memorial Services Detachment a non-profit?

Yes-The Fort Sam Houston Memorial Services Detachment operates as a chartered non-profit as of 21 June 1990. Operating funds come through donations from organizations, individuals, and friends of the MSD.  The Memorial Services Detachment is a 501(c)(19), EIN is 742590234.

Can I donate to the Memorial Services Detachment?
